On Saturday, June 25th, we celebrated two years of Exploring Dogs, and together with Ham Tin Speedboat, raised $8,115 HKD for our beneficiary charity of the month, Love Adopt Animal Society.
We started the day by piling 40 humans and their dogs on a bus from Central to Sai Kung - courtesy of 99bus HK 香港寵物巴士企劃, and meeting the other half of our group in Sai Kung for a speedboat ride to the beautiful, remote beach of Tai Long Wan!
Luckily, after two weeks of non-stop rain, the weather was on our side, and we had clear blue skies with intermittent cloud coverage. After everyone had pitched their tents and had a quick dip in the crystal clear waters, we kicked off with some games, consisting of a mini obstacle course complete with tunnels, weave poles, and a good ol' swimming competition at the end to determine our top winners!
The "Weiners"
1st place: @Filothefurbaby
2nd place: @Cooper_n_skye
3rd place: @Sunding_the_frenchie (defying breed stereotypes)
However, everyone was a winner and the dogs enjoyed some lovely treats from our sponsors.
The Sponsors
Thanks to Faith Max Enterprise, we were able to arrange the following prizes for our top three winners; EzyDog Life Vest, EzyDog Roadrunnder Leashes, EzyDog Harness, respectively. EzyDog is an Australian avant-garde active dog gear company, solely distributed by Faith Max Enterprise in Hong Kong. Faith Max Enterprise also source other products that contribute to the overall health and well-being of our pets, stocking products such as RelaxoPet, Churpi (Himalayan Cheese) and PAWSOME Organics, to name a few. To check out their other products, follow their Facebook page here.
We also had some prizes courtesy of HOLY CAP for fourth and fifth place, and the lucky winners of these bundles were Cooper's younger brother (and first time explorer) Skye, a 6-month old Border Collie, and Kuma, one of two of Sweetpea Cafe's Pomsky mascots! HOLY CAP provides the most ethical, effortless, and enjoyable way for dogs and cats to receive the incredible benefits of functional mushrooms every single day. If you would also like to try these new mushroom-based supplements for pets, Exploring Dogs can enjoy a 10% discount until August 31st using the code "EXPLORINGDOGS10" upon checkout.
After the obstacle course, the dogs earned themselves a first taste of Wow.we.made's new ice-cream (- I guess you could say we had the inside scoop). All of Wow.we.made's treats are beautifully handcrafted and made with human-grade ingredients. In this case, our doggie ice-creams consisted of a potato and plain yoghurt base with one of the following goodies added to provide five different flavours and colours to choose from; original (plain yoghurt), Beetroot, Blue Spirulina, Kale Powder and Purple Sweet Potato.
Each dog also received a bag of dehydrated Kangaroo or Beef Liver courtesy of Bugsy’s Pet Supplies. The Bugsy team is made up of Vets, PhD Nutritionists and certified herbalists to bring your dogs the best of Food Therapy to create all natural, healthy and sustainable products.
Check out their website here for more of their products.
For those cheeky pups that refused to stay hydrated, we had the assistance of Puptails, Hong Kong's very own luxury, broth-based beverages for dogs, made with free range Aussie meat. Dogs got to choose from two flavours on the day; the popular Barkerita, which comes with a healthy dose of Spirulina, and the Cosmopawliton, with a tinge of beets. If you would like to purchase some puptails to help keep your pups hydrated on your adventures, send @puptails_hk a direct message on Instagram - first time buyers can enjoy a special 10% off!
After the pups were done playing and had had their fill of treats, it was time for the humans to hike over to Ham Tin for lunch at On Kee, where the restaurant owners took great care of us, and cooked us a meal of chicken wings, spring rolls, fries, udon and fried rice. In fact, they went above and beyond and we had a surplus of food, which we happily doled out to other guests at the restaurant. If you would also like to arrange a group visit to this beach and arrange food with this restaurant, contact Alison from Ham Tin Speedboat to arrange.
Finally, to wrap up the day, we gathered on Ham Tin beach, where @photoginthesky took a fantastic drone shot of the group, before we departed back to Sai Kung and called it a day.
Special thanks to everyone that joined us on this massive two year celebration, and donated to our beneficiary charity. We do not profit from organising any of these trips, and do it solely to help raise funds for our local shelters. It is these donations that keep us going. Thank you for your trust and support in us. We have formed some fantastic friendships, over our 17 trips, and raised over $74,000 HKD for various shelters across Hong Kong (and China) since our first trip in July 2020! Huge shoutout to our Ambassadors for ensuring everything ran smoothly on the day. As mentioned, we do this all on a voluntary basis, and each time, everyone of them go above and beyond to help ensure our adventures go smoothly, and everyone is looked after. A massive thanks again to our sponsors; Faith Max Enterprise, Holy Cap, Bugsy's Treats, Wow.we.made and Puptails, as well as our transportation partners; 99bus HK 香港寵物巴士企劃 and Ham Tin Tai Long Speedboat 晴朗 大浪鹹田灣快艇及環島遊 日間船河 夜釣墨魚 for always transporting us safely to and fro.
